Tea and biscotti

Tea and biscotti was what I had over the weekend. I used this recipe, without the cranberries as I did not have any. The batter was not possible to shape, it was really soft. I baked them in my silicon daisy mould, (yes, it does seem like this is my only kitchen item these days) and then sliced them very very thin for thin biscotti. I like my biscotti thin and sleek. It solves the problem of them being underbaked or too hard. They’re wafer thin and dry out really fast in the oven. I baked them longer in the oven during the second baking, about 15 mins. They also dunk well and snap easily too. They were wrapped cosily in a hankerchief Wenyin bought me, do you remember Wen? I think it was from Australia. I had them with a few of my favourite things.

This was a jar I bought from my regular bakeshop Ailin Bakery at Tanjong Katong Complex. You can find it in Chinatown too for bout $3 or less. I love this jar because of the see thru lid, sometimes I stick a round label on the inside, with a message written if I’m giving it as a gift.

This was a birthday gift from Mel this year, I am in a chocolate phase now.

My favourite brand of tea from Indonesia, its only available at Indonesian restaurants or in Jakarta. Its really good, Mel who knows all things Indonesian gave me my first taste when I was 14. I’ve been hooked since then. It has a pleasant light subtle rose scent and dose not have that sour aftertaste that some black teas have.

The lovely teacup was a wedding gift from my dear friend Zhimin, the fellow baker. April was the month I got married so this teacup from the Royal Doulton set of “Flowers of the Month” is really special.

    I think you did a great job with the biscotti. Sticky doughs are the worst!

    I have to source for this tea and Donna Hay’s book! I don’t remember seeing the book here in the State! And lovely biscottis you have over there.

    So many pretty things. :) Thanks again for the lovely tiramisu! Really enjoyed savouring it last night, especially with the cool rainy weather. Too bad I didn’t have any Prendjak with it.

    Yup, if there’s something we have in common that’s the Prendjak tea. It’s quite uncanny, this composition. All things English, and then the humble Prendjak. LOve its scent and texture. A definite must have with that lovely biscotti. You must have Kak Sal bring back some.

    Pat: The dough really had a life of its own, it was sticky and gooey like bubble gum. But it baked and sliced beautifully with a very tight crumb. I have to admit, I buy donna hay and oogle at the pics but have can honestly say I haven’t really tried any of her recipes. So I cant say, but the book is beautiful.

    Mandy: The tea is seriously hard to find, even in Indonesia.. But its worth a try!

    mel: glad u liked it, I would be happy to make u anything u see on the blog, and u too zukelele, sorry the rest, I only deliver cooked stuff around this little island..

    Zu: Where do u think I get my yearly supply??? Even Happy is a teh prenjak convert/freak.

    i’m getting hungryyy…
    okay, you’ve been silent, so here’s some suggestions for your coming activities (that you can then blog about, haha):

    - have a picnic!! or just an entry on what your fave picnic food is. (ok i confess, my friends and i are planning a picnic soon and i need ideas… HAHAHA)
    - make something for mel and zukelele (i would say myself too, but since i’ve already got the cookies, i want to at least appear like i’ve some shame here) and immortalize the effort on your blog, complete with pictures of their surprised/delighted faces. heh.

    hahaha, shafaa’s idea was brilliant! I would be more than happy to look surprised/delighted!!…with sumptuous foodies in front of me…hey why not kill 2 birds with one stone? Would you like to help me gift wrap and tie lotsa ribbons? Mel sounds keen…maybe we could have tea and biscotti over frills, bows, satin, organza…a visual spectacle…what say you? :)

    hi! it’s suraya here! you’ve got a super blog! anyway i wanted to say HELLO since i haven’t seen u in yonks! my parents said that they were in Paris with your dad…and mentioned that he was very ‘cool’.

    i didn’t really know what to make of that comment…it was complimentary, most definitely…i just didn’t realise that my parents use the word ‘cool’….

    so, there. your dad is ‘cool’ :) i guess if someone’s dad calls your dad ‘cool’, it’s something to be proud of!
