A fruit seller in Vietnam cutting fruit my mom in law bought
I didn’t have much of a weekend as I did a call on Saturday night and was sick from Friday night. We went furniture shopping after H picked me up from the hospital. This time I bothered to change out of my scrubs because I felt I would be uncomfortable in a furniture shop in scrubs. Somehow I feel comfortable in the library or around my neighbourhood mall in scrubs, it feels like a pjama but in big shops I feel a little self conscious. We ate at Evertop Chicken Rice which was our MSG laden meal of the day. I love it. I’m not ashamed to admit it, I love MSG chicken rice though it probably contributed to the headache at the end of the day, or perhaps it was the gazillion sofas I sat on! Evertop is good, they specialize in Hainanese boneless chicken rice and the other thing is the service is so excellent. I think they really exemplify service with a smile. The staff are really fantastic, you have to go to understand what I mean. For some food shots check this out, though the chicken feet makes me squeamish. Chicken skin is something I don’t eat and isn’t the feet all skin? I’m sure there are some who love chicken feet out there, perhaps someone can give me an explaination to why people love it?
We went to International Furniture Center which I stumbled upon while looking for the Barang Barang warehouse sale. Its quite a large shopping mall that is freakily like a ghost town. Maybe I’m not used to empty shops in Singapore. The Barang Barang sale was a little disappointing, I didn’t get the dining chairs I wanted in the end because we decided we wanted something a little different. We ended up with 2 cub chairs for the living room from another shop which H sat on and decided we HAD to have them. We sat in so many chairs so when H felt they were special I knew we had to take them back. After looking at so many sofas, we’ve kind of decided on one that we saw at the very beginning of the search. My mom says she’ll get it as a gift for us, I think she was a little alarmed when I told her I wanted to get one cheap. I think she thinks the sofa is one of the more important pieces of furniture in the house.
So far the funiture shopping has been pretty good, we’ve found pieces we really liked at good prices. We’ve gotten a coffee table, dining table, TV and a bed. We have to choose fabric for the curtains, buy the living room chairs, the sofa and lamps as well as electronics: fridge, washing machine and the oven. Counting down till we get the key on Friday!
Stunnng photo, it should be in a magazine
Your mum’s right you know – the sofa is the most important piece of furniture in the house (besides the bed) I always use this yardstick with my lounge suites – if it doesn’t swallow me up and let me go to sleep on it – I don’t want it
Oh, the other thing I realised – having enough seats for when people come over makes everything so much easier. Having said all that, next time, instead of getting a 3 seater and 2 recliners, I think I’d go for the versatility of a sofa with built in recliners too!
Oh, furniture shopping is so much fun! Putting your individual stamp on a house is what makes it a home. Lots of best wishes to you and H – exciting times!
Wow! u’re really going all out with the furniture shopping!
How exciting! Let me know if u need help…
ah… isnt nesting fun?
if you need an extra pair of hands to carry furniture or paint walls or anything, just holler!
rosie: We got the expensive sofa in the end, I think its a good investment since we’ll be sitting on it for years.. I’m looking at ways to increase seating in a small place, perhaps some stools that can double as coffee tables or even ottomans seem quite space saving and can double as a table..
mel: thanks! I know u’ll be there for me..
Elia: I can’t let u labour while u’re here!
